Our Favorite Wedding Films

Everybody loves a good rom com, right?! But rom coms are even more special to us when they feature something we love so much - weddings! We asked everybody on Team RRE what their favorite wedding-centered movie is to curate the all-time best wedding planning movie marathon. So grab some popcorn, pop a bottle of champagne and enjoy some of our all-time classics!

CC: The Proposal

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this movie, but it just always seems to be the one that I’ll stop and watch any time it’s on TV. Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are absolutely perfect with their witty banter and love-hate dynamic, but then you also have the legendary Betty White who cracks me up any time she’s on screen. You can’t go wrong!

Allison: Runaway Bride

Who doesn’t love a Garry Marshall movie?! Sprinkle in Richard Gere and Julia Roberts and you have a perfect rom com! What makes the movie even better is the message that a strong and lasting partnership starts with knowing yourself and finding your own contentment.

Becca:The Wedding Date

Ok, my all-time favorite is really Father of the Bride (no surprise there, as I’m the world’s most devoted Nancy Meyers fan), but Betsy beat me to this, so I’ll share my second favorite: The Wedding Date, starring Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney. I’m not even totally sure what I love most about it… but the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic.

Emily: Mamma Mia!

Not your conventional wedding movie, but I love musicals and love Meryl Streep even more! I will watch it anytime, anywhere. I love the music (how could you not?!) and witty performances by the star-studded cast. The mother-daughter relationship makes me cry often and the whole movie brings me joy every time I watch it!

Betsy: Father of the Bride

Tied with CC’s pick, Father of the Bride with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short takes the cake for me. If you’re newly engaged, you should absolutely watch it with your family. Something about the scene in which George, Nina, and Annie try to cut the guest list down (so there are no more than 150 people at the house) just hits different when you’re in the thick of making your own list. Poor Harry Kirby! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you must watch now!
