Who’s Coming to Dinner? Meet Bridal Stylist, Gabrielle Hurwitz
Welcome back to the party! In this blog series entitled, Who’s Coming to Dinner?, we’re sharing Q&As with some of our favorite industry partners and friends. This week, we’re chatting about all things fashion with bridal stylist, Gabrielle Hurwitz. Ahead of the much-anticipated Oscars, airing on March 27th, Gabrielle was kind enough to give a preview into the exclusive world of styling and what it means for her soon-to-wed couples.
What are you bringing to our proverbial dinner party?
Probably dessert. Not only do I love to bake and have the biggest sweet tooth ever (though I don’t like chocolate), but I truly feel no meal is complete without a bite of something sweet at the end.
What are you sipping on?
I’m not a huge drinker these days, but I’ll never say no to a glass of red wine or a passion fruit margarita.
What should we put on the record player?
I love jazzy vibes for dinner. Think: Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Billie Holliday, Louis Armstrong, etc.
We haven’t (yet) worked together but hope the stars align in the future. Tell us how you typically work with a planner?
I think the fashion is as important to the overall design of a wedding as the color palette, florals, rentals, etc. Because of that, I like to work closely with my clients’ planners to make sure that the fashion choices we’re making make sense with the wedding they’re planning. I love to see mood boards and design presentations as they evolve throughout the planning process and make sure that I share my fashion mood boards and final look books, too, to make sure everything complements each other.
We love how much you lean on design elements! Once you understand the event aesthetic and vibe, how do you collaborate with the couple to nail the look?
It all starts with an in-depth conversation to understand a client’s vision for a particular event, be it the wedding day, the rehearsal dinner, or the farewell brunch. Based on that conversation, I put together a fashion mood board to serve as a reference for the overall look and feel we’re going for. From there, we’ll either shop together in person or I’ll put together a lookbook of shoppable options the client can look through and buy. Once we’ve decided on the main garment, it’s time to work on accessories. I present different head-to-toe outfit ideas that will create a cohesive look and make a stylish statement. Finally, I put together hair and makeup ideas for the client to pull everything together.
With much anticipation for the upcoming red carpet looks….who is someone in bridal fashion we need to keep our eye on?
There are so many talented bridal designers out there, but I’m keeping my eye on the Australians. There are some seriously incredible designers coming out of Australia right now and I can’t wait until they’re distributed here in the US.
We can’t wait to see your picks for Best Dressed at the Oscars but until then, can you share your favorite gown from Bridal Fashion Week?
When I say I’m obsessed with this Danielle Frankel. The drama. The sophistication. The romance. It’s incredible.
Gabrielle, thanks for sharing your time and talents with us. We wholeheartedly believe in the power of bridal styling (this goes for the guys, too!) and can’t wait to work together soon.
