A Summer Fête in Kanas City | Annie & Chris’ Wedding on the Fourth of July

It wasn’t the original plan to host a wedding in Missouri in July of 2021. When we first began working with Annie and Chris, they were planning to wed and host a springtime celebration in North Carolina. But soon, the pandemic made it clear that it would be wiser and safer to relocate the event closer to their families and friends in the midwest and then ultimately postpone a few months to summer. So that’s just what we did, and how we landed on a festive summer holiday date in a charming venue on the outskirts of Kansas City!

With the shift from spring to summer, we all felt like the original color palette of pinks, lavender, soft yellows and blues needed a bit of a summer punch. Enter, the perfect shades of watermelon coral and poppy red. Voila! Enjoy a glance at this vibrant, beautiful, joyful summer day from last year, courtesy of Mike Cassimatis Photography.

Could Annie have possibly looked any more radiant?! We think not. Her joy was contagious!

Their venue, the Hawthorne House, has a beautiful chapel on its property. While we initially planned for an outdoor garden ceremony, the heat of July meant an indoor ceremony was a much smarter choice. It was so lovely to be able to transition inside so seamlessly for the exchange of vows.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, all of the guests enjoyed a cocktail hour with lawn games, watermelon lemonade, and an open bar with tray-passed hors d’oeuvres, before being seated for an elegant plated dinner and an evening of toasting the newlyweds, dancing, and celebration.

Our graphic designer, Allison, painted each flower type that we used in the floral design elements so that they would all be represented in the paper elements. Gotta love those pretty poppy red sweet peas!

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already celebrated Annie and Chris’ one year anniversary. Time has flown this past year! We felt so privileged to work with this amazing couple, and the sweetest family. It was a joy to bring this celebration to life, and we’ll never celebrate the fourth of July again without raising a glass to remember this wildly fun summer day in 2021. Cheers, to you Annie and Chris!
